National Bank(NB bank) dominate MK 5 million to Southern Region Chess Leageu.

Veteran chess players in the Southern Region have welcomed the support from National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc, saying it has removed many challenges they usually face during competitions.

The K5 million donation towards the SRCL Veterans Chess Tournament has brought relief among players. With the bank covering key costs, players will no longer struggle with issues such as organisation, venue arrangements and basic tournament needs.

Many veteran players say the support allows them to concentrate fully on playing chess. Instead of worrying about expenses and logistics, they can now enjoy the game and compete freely.

The assistance has also made players feel recognised and respected. Veterans say the bank’s involvement shows that their long contribution to the development of chess in Malawi is valued.

Players have further noted that the support motivates them to remain active in the sport and to mentor younger players. This, they say, strengthens unity and knowledge-sharing within the chess community.

The SRCL Veterans Chess Tournament, set for 20 February 2026 in Blantyre, is expected to be a relaxed and well-organised event. With NBM plc’s backing, veteran players will take part with happiness, confidence and peace of mind.
